A new plaque upon which are written the names of 79 local miners was added to the Sankeys Corner Miner and Pony statue on the 1st December2014. The special day of commemoration involved a family fun day for all the people of Burntwood to attend and local schoolchildren worked with the artist to pay tribute on the day.
The unveiling of the plaque was followed by a formal blessing and prayer in memory of those whose lives were given in the mining industry and then Carols were sung by children from Chase Terrace Primary School and Ridgeway Primary School
